Vizrt has released AI Keyer, a real-time tool for separating a person from the camera background without a traditional green screen. The resulting foreground can be combined with virtual environments, augmented graphics or replacement backgrounds.
Vizrt says the model was trained on varied real-world material for indoor and outdoor use. The keyer is intended to sit inside live production rather than require offline rotoscoping, making it relevant to smaller studios and remote contributors.
Why it matters
Removing the physical chroma stage lowers the barrier to virtual production and can make temporary locations usable for branded output. The operational test is whether edges, motion blur, fine hair and overlapping objects remain convincing under live lighting.
What still needs checking
AI separation can fail on difficult clothing, transparency and backgrounds. Productions need a visible fallback and should test representative cameras, compression and lighting before relying on it on air.
