Sony has introduced the FE 8-14mm F3.5 G, a full-frame E-mount fisheye zoom aimed at video, stills and immersive capture. The lens maintains a 180-degree angle of view while moving from a circular image at 8mm to a diagonal fisheye at 14mm.
Independent zoom, focus and aperture rings make the layout more suitable for moving-image work than a stills-only control scheme. Two linear motors provide autofocus, and Sony claims focus breathing is limited. Minimum focus is 15 centimetres, while the 314-gram body includes a rear filter holder.
The zoom range offers a practical way to adjust immersive framing without changing lenses. Sony also points to paired use with two VENICE 2 Extension System Mini units, where consistent coverage and compact weight can matter in a stereoscopic rig.
The announcement does not include independent sharpness, stitching or breathing tests, and fisheye-to-rectilinear processing will still depend on the target workflow. The lens is scheduled to ship on 15 October, so production behaviour and calibration consistency remain to be assessed.
