ARRI has released Film Lab 1.5, an update to its licensed OpenFX plugin for applying film-derived grain, colour, halation and gate-weave characteristics to digital images. The release adds 8 mm, 16 mm and 65 mm starting points alongside the existing 35 mm model.

New Grain Size and Rendition of Detail controls each span 0.75 to 1.5. Anamorphic Ratio offers eight squeeze settings from 1.25x to 2.0x, while Halation Spread adjusts the radius of highlight glow. ARRI has also doubled the upper range of grain and halation intensity controls.

For post-production pipelines, the most consequential changes may be performance and colour management. ARRI claims processing can be up to four times faster, enabling real-time 4K playback on more systems, including Apple Silicon MacBook Pro hardware. ACES 2.0 ACEScc and ACEScct input and output options are new, and Baselight can pass the timeline colour space to the plugin through OpenFX 1.5.

The announcement does not publish benchmark scenes, hardware configurations beyond a broad Apple Silicon example, or measured image comparisons. It also does not establish that every host application will deliver the maximum speed-up. Facilities should therefore test representative material, host versions and colour transforms before changing a production pipeline.
