FoMaSystems has launched SkyperCam, an aerial cinematography platform built around an Air Création microlight and the FoMa Antares three-axis remote head. The current aircraft configuration leaves approximately six kilograms for the camera package and can remain airborne for as long as four hours, depending on payload, weather and mission setup.
The Antares open-ring design accepts different professional cinema and broadcast cameras without traditional counterweights. A High Dynamic Mode adapts the stabiliser to the forces of changing speed and attitude. Operators can select different wing configurations, adjust flight behaviour for the shot and use either conventional landing gear or floats. The microlight can work at lower speeds and from shorter fields than many conventional aircraft.
The system sits between drones and helicopter camera platforms. Longer endurance, greater payload and lower noise could be valuable for natural history, live sport and documentary work, while reduced fuel use and operating cost may make sustained aerial coverage more practical. France 3's Des Racines & des Ailes has already used the platform in place of conventional helicopter filming. Availability will depend on a qualified pilot network and local aviation rules, and the company has not published pricing or live-broadcast transmission options.
