Ross Video has expanded Ultrix with FR30, a 30RU chassis aimed at enterprise broadcast, sports, outside broadcast and large media facilities. A single frame supports up to 576 by 576 UHD inputs and outputs, and multiple frames can be combined.
FR30 uses the same interchangeable I/O cards, software architecture, licensing and operating workflows as smaller Ultrix frames. The platform can work with SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, Dante, SRT and JPEG XS within one processing environment.
Ross positions the chassis as a consolidation core, claiming reductions of up to 97 percent in rack space, 89 percent in power and 95 percent in cabling compared with traditional designs. Those figures indicate the intended scale but are configuration-dependent vendor comparisons.
Detailed slot population, processing limits, redundancy, heat load and control-plane performance have not been published in the announcement. Facilities will need a like-for-like bill of materials and failure-domain analysis before applying the headline savings to a project design.
