Oscilloquartz has expanded its OSAinside OSA 5400 TimeCard family for precise timing inside commercial off-the-shelf and purpose-built servers. The update adds PCIe Precision Time Measurement, multi-band L1/L5 GNSS reception and detection intended to identify jamming or spoofing.

The standard OSA 5400 TimeCard can operate as a PTP grandmaster, boundary clock or slave clock and also supports NTP. The OSA 5400 TAP variant targets the Open Compute Project Time Appliance Project architecture with Linux-based management. Optional Iridium PNT can provide another timing source when terrestrial GNSS reception is challenged.

For IP media facilities, moving clock functions into the server could reduce dependence on a separate timing appliance and align synchronization more closely with software-defined processing. That is operationally relevant because live video, audio and metadata flows depend on stable time, although a useful broadcast deployment still requires profile compatibility, network design and measured holdover behaviour.

The announcement does not claim compliance with the SMPTE ST 2059-2 broadcast PTP profile, publish packet-level performance figures or provide pricing and availability. White Rabbit support is described only as a future firmware capability. Broadcast engineers should therefore treat the product as a potentially relevant timing building block, not as a pre-qualified replacement for an existing media grandmaster.
