PROTON Camera Innovations has launched PROTON IS, a miniature broadcast camera that combines electronic image stabilisation with a split head-and-processor design. The camera head measures 20 x 20 x 22.5mm and consumes 0.5W, while the separate 23 x 23 x 70mm processing and power unit consumes 2.3W.
The two parts connect over up to 90cm of flexible cable, allowing the head to sit on a person, vehicle, drone or helmet while processing and heat remain elsewhere. The system outputs 1080p60 in 10-bit quality, includes stereo audio, connects to SDI transmitters and supports remote control over RS485.
Separating the optics from processing can reduce head weight and heat at difficult mounting points, while stabilisation targets the gait and vibration that make body cameras hard to use in live sport. The source does not state sensor size, stabilisation crop, lens options, latency, weather sealing or availability date.
