Proton Camera Innovations has introduced FLEXY, a miniature point-of-view camera built around a small imaging head and a separate electronic control unit. The two components can be placed up to ten metres apart using standard 50-ohm coax with SMA connectors, allowing the processor, power and SDI connections to remain protected while only the head is exposed.
The IP67 lipstick head measures 19mm in diameter by 34mm including its connector, while a square alternative measures 19 by 19 by 24mm. Both use a one-third-inch global-shutter sensor with 12-bit dynamic range and feed Proton's VEGA image processor for 1080p output. The ECU provides HD-SDI on BNC, power and control on Hirose, the head connection on SMA and a 3.5mm stereo audio input.
The design targets rally cars, helmets, goal posts and other positions where a conventional camera can be difficult or expensive to risk. Proton says the head represents about one-third of the system cost, and the standardized cable and connectors can simplify field replacement. Total power draw is specified at 3W across a 6.5V to 25V supply range.
The published material confirms the mechanical architecture and listed interfaces, but it does not provide pricing, shipping dates, sensitivity figures or independently measured image performance. Productions will also need to test cable robustness, connector strain relief and colour matching against their main camera chain before operational deployment.
