OWC has added a dual-HDMI model to its Thunderbolt 5 dock family, targeting workstations that need high-resolution displays without separate USB-C video adapters. Two HDMI 2.1 outputs can each drive up to 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 240Hz on compatible Thunderbolt 5 hosts using Display Stream Compression.
The dock combines display connectivity with USB-C expansion, card readers, wired networking and laptop power. A front USB-C port can supply as much as 30 watts to a peripheral, while the host connection provides up to 140 watts. The chassis can operate horizontally or vertically.
For mobile editing, graphics and engineering positions, one repeatable connection can reduce setup time and adapter variation. Backward compatibility with Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB4 and USB-C systems protects mixed fleets, although bandwidth and display capability fall back to the limits of each host.
OWC plans shipments in early November. The maximum display modes depend on computer GPU support and compression, and the announcement does not provide measured storage throughput while both displays and other ports are active. Those shared-bandwidth conditions should be tested for a specific workstation.
