Austria's ORF is preparing a national contribution-network upgrade built around Net Insight's Nimbra platform. Systems integrator Big Blue Marble selected Nimbra 1000 and Nimbra 600 equipment for links between ORF's headquarters, a second Vienna facility and nine regional studios.
The design carries SMPTE ST 2110 video and audio while retaining SDI conversion at appropriate edges. NMOS-based discovery and connection management are part of the control approach, allowing the broadcaster to move towards interoperable IP routing without requiring every connected device to become IP-native at once.
Why it matters
The project is a useful example of a phased national transition: deterministic contribution transport, legacy interfaces and standards-based orchestration are combined in one architecture. The announcement does not state the deployment timetable, provisioned capacity, redundancy topology or measured end-to-end latency, so those operational details remain to be confirmed.
