Nikon has confirmed ZR firmware 2.00, extending RED-oriented colour handling beyond RAW recording. The camera will gain Log3G10 and REDWideGamutRGB when recording H.265, providing a lower-data-rate option that retains the same colour-space and transfer-function choices for grading.
The release also adds selectable high-ISO noise reduction for H.265 Log footage and focus peaking during R3D NE recording. RED CONTROL and RED CONTROL PRO are being updated separately to provide remote operation of the ZR.
Nikon's longer roadmap includes open-gate recording and an anamorphic desqueeze display in 2027. The company is also developing nine NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV lenses, beginning with a 50mm model whose image circle covers the 40.96 by 21.60 millimetre V-RAPTOR X sensor and which combines autofocus with manual control.
Firmware 2.00 is promised before the end of 2026, but no exact date is published. The open-gate work and lens family remain development announcements without final focal-length sequence, pricing or availability, so those elements should not yet be treated as shipping features.
