Viltrox has shown a second-generation NexusFocus F1 prototype at IBC2026. The PL-to-Sony-E system translates the camera’s phase-detection and subject-tracking commands into movement of external motors on manual cinema lenses.
The new motors remove the original external cabling and use removable rechargeable batteries, with USB-C retained as an alternative power and connection path. New and original motors are cross-compatible with both adapter generations, and the lens database has been expanded.
This keeps focus decisions based on the image passing through the taking lens rather than a separate ranging sensor. For solo operators and compact rigs, the change could make PL glass easier to use with native-camera eye and subject detection.
The unit is still a prototype and Viltrox has not announced final specifications or price. Battery endurance, motor noise, calibration repeatability, supported camera bodies and behaviour with mechanically inconsistent lenses all need verification before delivery.
