Nevion has released an update for its Virtuoso software-defined media node that expands its HEVC transport tools. The new version adds audio compression alongside video compression and gives broadcasters more precise control over how a workflow balances bandwidth, latency and image quality.
Virtuoso is used for live contribution, remote production, IP facilities and cloud connectivity. In those environments, reducing video bitrate alone can leave audio as a meaningful part of the remaining payload, especially in productions carrying many channels. Compressing both elements gives engineering teams another way to fit services onto constrained links without rebuilding the complete signal path.
The release also adds customer-defined Inspect views in Virtuoso's web interface. Operators can gather selected function diagrams on one screen, making it easier to supervise the parts of a distributed workflow that matter to a particular production or circuit. That is an operational improvement rather than a new codec, but it can reduce navigation during fault finding.
Nevion, a Sony Group company, will show the update as part of Sony's Networked Live portfolio at IBC2026. The announcement confirms the functions but does not publish exact audio codec choices, per-profile latency figures or comparative quality measurements, so those details still need evaluation for individual deployments.
