NDI says its network-video ecosystem has reached 1.2 million hardware nodes across more than 200 brands. The figure is published by NDI itself and should be understood as an ecosystem metric rather than an independently audited installed-base count.
Alongside the milestone, NDI is highlighting node-management tools, recording and playback capabilities and demonstrations of HEVC 4:4:4 video. These additions focus on operating larger estates and preserving more colour information within compressed IP workflows.
Why it matters
A large device ecosystem can make it easier to combine cameras, converters, software and displays from different suppliers. Scale also makes discovery, firmware visibility, access control and health monitoring more important. A protocol is only operationally interoperable when devices behave predictably under load and through upgrades.
HEVC 4:4:4 could improve graphics, keying and desktop-content workflows compared with more heavily subsampled formats, while retaining compression. Engineers will still want measured latency, generation loss, hardware decode support and clear licensing information.
What remains open
NDI's page is dated 25 August, while the press-copy dateline refers to 4 August. The company has not published the counting method behind the 1.2 million figure or final availability details for every previewed capability.
