Middle Things has released Middle Control 4.0 as the stable macOS version of its camera-control application. The company says the release supports more than 200 models and rolls the earlier 3.3 beta work into a common live-view, multiview and automation toolset.
New coverage spans Canon Cinema EOS, XF, EOS R and PTZ families; Sony cinema, broadcast and PTZ cameras; Panasonic and Lumix box, mirrorless and PTZ models; and devices from BirdDog, OBSBOT, PTZOptics and Z CAM. An iPhone running the Blackmagic Camera app can also be monitored and controlled.
A software layer that normalises different vendor APIs can reduce the number of hardware panels and utilities needed for mixed-camera productions. It may be especially useful in compact studios, remote production and event workflows where operators move between fixed PTZ units, cinema bodies and small mobile sources.
Support depth is not identical across every model, and the changelog lists specific prerequisites and known limitations. Some Canon bodies require CCAPI activation, controller firmware 2.0 is required for the APC-R family, and the Windows 4.0 build remains a public beta rather than the stable macOS release.
