MainStreaming has joined the OpenMOQ Software Consortium and committed engineering resources to open-source Media over QUIC implementations. The work covers ingest, relay and playback components intended to support adoption of the developing IETF MOQ and QUIC specifications.

OpenMOQ brings competing technology companies together around a shared application-level software foundation. The consortium describes MOQ as supporting latency profiles from interactive real time through sub-second live delivery and on-demand playback while retaining a scalable publish-and-subscribe model.

Why it matters

Protocol standards are easier to adopt when implementers can test against common software rather than building every component independently. MainStreaming's experience operating an edge video network can bring large-scale delivery constraints into the reference implementation while vendors continue to differentiate above it.

MOQ remains active standards work, so APIs and wire behaviour can change. Open-source availability does not by itself prove interoperability, performance or production readiness; those require multi-vendor test events, version discipline and published conformance results.
