LucidLink has announced that Connect will allow authorised teams to open and modify media held in existing storage without first staging a full copy in a separate filespace. Supported examples named by the company include S3, Dropbox and Frame.io.
A new management interface is intended to let administrators add, monitor and control connected data stores centrally. Users can then work with the exposed files in familiar creative applications while the original storage, governance and security model remains in place.
LucidLink's Python SDK is also moving to general availability during September, providing a supported route for workflow automation. A separate MSP offering gives service providers tools to provision, manage and bill multiple customer environments using customer-owned storage.
The change matters for distributed post-production because it targets the delay and cost of copying large media estates before work can start. Real-world write performance, conflict behaviour and compatibility will depend on each source store, application and network path, and those limits were not quantified in the announcement.
