Leitz Cine has introduced iD Mount, an optional metadata mount for HUGO and SUMMILUX-C lenses. Compatible cameras can record lens name, focal length, serial number, distortion map and shading map with each clip through the /i metadata interface.
The data persists through dailies and post-production, helping crews identify the exact lens used and giving visual-effects teams optical maps for undistortion, compositing, matching and later reapplication of lens characteristics. It does not provide live focus or iris telemetry.
New lenses can be ordered with the mount, while existing lenses can be upgraded by swapping the self-contained mount and checking back focus. A separate update base and free macOS or Windows software allow facilities to programme or revise the stored data.
The mount costs €500 and the PL or LPL update base €320. Practical value depends on camera support for /i metadata and on downstream tools preserving the fields; productions should test the entire path before relying on the mount to replace manual lens records.
