ITN worked with Haivision and Neutral Wireless on a temporary private 5G contribution network for London fireworks coverage. The project used a short-duration allocation in the 2320–2340 MHz n40 band rather than relying only on congested public mobile networks.

Two HD cameras were connected through Haivision Falkon X2 and Pro transmitters to StreamHub receivers. The pop-up design was intended to provide managed radio capacity in a crowded location where public cellular performance can be difficult to predict.

Why it matters

Temporary private spectrum could give news and event crews greater control without deploying extensive wired infrastructure. It is especially relevant at mass gatherings, where thousands of spectators compete for public network resources.

What still needs checking

The trial covered two cameras and one event. Spectrum availability, licensing, range, interference management and the economics of repeated deployment vary significantly by country and production scale.
