Ikegami has introduced four VN cameras based on its existing UNICAM XE models: the 4K UHK-X700VN and studio-format X750VN, plus the HD X600VN and X650VN. Their central addition is a stepless variable neutral-density filter intended for exposure changes during live operation.
The filter begins at zero attenuation, avoiding the light loss and image shift that can occur when a conventional variable-ND stage is engaged. Operators can therefore keep an iris setting and chosen depth of field while changing exposure. Ikegami also provides a mode that coordinates ND, iris and electronic gain across a wider automatic range.
For studios and virtual production, the approach can help preserve a planned background blur while compensating for changing illumination. Ikegami also points to reducing interference patterns when cameras photograph LED walls. The X700VN retains global-shutter 2/3-inch 4K sensors, HLG, BT.2020 and BT.709 support, optional simultaneous 4K and HD outputs and high-frame-rate options through the BSX-100 base station.
The launch confirms models and functions, but does not include measured filter neutrality, transition artefacts or pricing. Side-by-side tests under LED lighting and with broadcast zoom lenses will be needed to quantify the creative benefit.
