GlobalM and Lamhas Satellite Services have agreed to deploy GMX1 software-defined media nodes in data centres in New Delhi and Mumbai. Lamhas plans to use the infrastructure for managed live-news contribution, sports coverage, permanent broadcast services and IP distribution.
The GMX platform combines routing, transport, processing, monitoring and automation in one operational environment. The two Indian nodes can run local services while connecting to GMX Cloud and GlobalM's wider distributed architecture when customers need additional capacity or international reach.
Why it matters
Lamhas serves more than 250 Indian and international broadcasters, so the project is a concrete regional expansion of software-defined media infrastructure rather than a laboratory demonstration. Local nodes can also give operators more predictable control over data location and connectivity than a cloud-only design.
The partners have not published throughput, redundancy design, service-level commitments or a commissioning date. Customer workloads and measured performance will determine how broadly the platform replaces or complements Lamhas satellite delivery.
