DVB used an IBC2026 technical session to examine the working feature set behind DVB-I. The presentation covered dynamic events, media presentation, linked applications, digital rights management, security and the signalling used to expose accessibility options.
The discussion drew on advanced implementation work including RTÉ’s Saorview trial in Ireland. DVB-I describes and discovers television services across broadcast, broadband and hybrid delivery, allowing a receiver to present a consistent service layer without assuming that every channel arrives through the same network.
The technical significance is in the supporting metadata rather than the visible programme grid. Events need stable identifiers, applications must be linked safely, DRM transitions must not interrupt playback, and accessibility options have to remain discoverable across devices and delivery changes.
The session did not establish uniform client behaviour across every television platform. Broadcasters and device makers still need conformance testing for service lists, regionalisation, entitlement, failover, dynamic-event timing and accessibility presentation before national launches can be treated as interchangeable.
