Canon has announced October firmware updates across its IP-enabled 4K PTZ camera range and the RC-IP1000 controller. The most substantial additions are internal recording on the CR-N700 and CR-N400 and registered-face priority tracking on the CR-N700, CR-N400 and CR-N350.
The two recording-enabled cameras will write MXF-based XF-AVC or MP4 files to SDXC media, with 4K60 recording at up to 600 Mb/s. Recording can be started from the RC-IP1000, a browser interface or Canon's camera-control applications. Media mode allows review from the web interface or controller and can upload selected or complete card contents to an FTP server.
Registered Face Tracking is part of the paid Auto Tracking Application. Operators can register faces and assign priority so that the camera follows the intended subject when several people are visible. Canon is also linking tracking settings to camera presets and adding more framing steps.
The RC-IP1000 gains broader Stream Deck support, including triggering presets on a secondary camera without leaving the camera currently under direct control. The announcement covers planned firmware and does not yet establish field reliability, supported SD-card performance classes or how face templates are stored and protected.
