Haivision has joined a cross-industry IBC Accelerator exploring whether mobile-network APIs can make 5G contribution more predictable. The Network Control: Your Connection, Your Choice project is testing application requests for defined quality rather than treating every bonded-cellular path as an undifferentiated best-effort connection.
The proof of concept combines Haivision's Falkon X2 transmitter, StreamHub receiver and Hub 360 cloud control with API-driven requests that can prioritise specific SIMs when a network becomes congested. Trials are being built around major sporting events in Germany and Spain.
Broadcaster champions include the BBC, EBU, DAZN, France Télévisions, RAI, RTL and TV 2 Denmark, with Vodafone, Telefónica and GSMA representing the network side. Neutral Wireless, LiveU, SliceFinity, Vonage and the University of Strathclyde also participate.
The project is exploratory rather than a commercial service announcement. Public results on latency, success rate, API portability, charging and behaviour across multiple operators have not yet been released, and the IBC demonstration will be an important first checkpoint.
