Blazar Lens has previewed Remus II, the second generation of its compact full-frame 1.5x anamorphic prime family. The lenses retain the squeeze ratio that balances a visibly anamorphic image with less extreme horizontal expansion than 2x designs.
A redesigned oval iris changes the rendering of out-of-focus highlights. Blazar also claims improved sharpness and a more neutral image, with revised flare behaviour intended to make the lenses easier to match across a modern digital-camera workflow.
The line targets owner-operators and small productions that want full-frame anamorphic coverage without the size and cost of traditional cinema lenses. The preview, however, provides limited final information on focal lengths, mounts and delivery.
The optical claims remain vendor statements until shipping lenses can be measured. Cinematographers should test close focus, distortion, squeeze consistency, breathing, edge sharpness and intercut matching before selecting Remus II for a production.
