Bifrost Communications and Gravity Media have tested a 25-gigabit quasi-coherent DWDM transceiver with SMPTE ST 2110 broadcast media. The pluggable uses an SFP28 form factor and covers the full optical C-band.
Bifrost describes the design as DSP-free, combining extended reach and improved chromatic-dispersion tolerance with lower latency and power than a conventional coherent optical module. The compact format is intended to put long-haul capacity directly into dense Ethernet switching and media platforms.
For distributed production, the key proposition is avoiding a separate optical transport chassis between ST 2110 endpoints. If the tested reach and error performance hold under operational conditions, facilities could extend 25G media links while preserving switch density and reducing power.
The report confirms successful testing but does not publish distance, fibre plant, wavelengths, bit-error rate, protection switching or latency measurements. Independent multi-vendor trials and detailed optical budgets are required before the result can be treated as a deployment specification.
