AJA has announced version 2.0 of IP25-R with bidirectional conversion between 12G-SDI and SMPTE ST 2110. The update is intended for facilities that need a compact edge device while baseband and IP equipment continue to coexist.
Instead of a one-direction adaptation path, the new software lets operators use the hardware on either side of a hybrid workflow. That makes the same unit useful for adding an SDI device to an IP fabric or exposing an IP source to an existing baseband chain.
Why it matters
Bidirectionality improves equipment utilisation and simplifies spares. It can also reduce the number of gateway models an engineering team must configure, monitor and keep current during a staged ST 2110 migration.
What still needs checking
The release headline does not replace a full design review. Supported essence combinations, PTP topology, ST 2022-7 protection and UHD channel capacity must be confirmed for each deployment.
