Sony has introduced the fourth generation of its DWX digital wireless microphone system with the DWT-B40 bodypack and DWR-R40Q rack receiver. The company says four channels can be configured and paired with a small number of control steps.
The 1RU receiver provides four-channel true-diversity reception, an optional four-antenna diversity mode and Dante networking across four output ports. Analogue XLR outputs remain for conventional infrastructure.
DWT-B40 supports transmission power up to 50mW where regional rules permit, selectable modes trading latency and robustness, USB or battery power and 48V phantom power for compatible condenser microphones. Internal 32-bit float recording can provide a safety copy, started locally or through Cross Remote, with timecode synchronisation and microSD transfer.
Sony expects both products in February 2027 and has not announced pricing. Frequency ranges, regional power limits, battery endurance, end-to-end latency and Dante redundancy details need checking for each territory and production before the system's simplified setup can be weighed against existing wireless estates.
