Düsseldorf production company Bildquadrat has added Riedel Virtual SmartPanel to its live-production intercom infrastructure. The software endpoint lets authorised crew members join production communications from smartphones, tablets and supported web browsers instead of requiring a dedicated hardware panel. It complements Bildquadrat's existing Riedel estate, which the company has also updated by replacing older Artist G2 frames with IP-based Artist-1024 systems.
Bildquadrat runs the STAGE infrastructure used by Virtual SmartPanel in its Düsseldorf server environment and connects VSP users to production intercom through Artist-1024. The company has built its own dashboard to monitor status information and user data remotely. That pairing gives engineering staff a central operational view while allowing short-notice participants, mobile reporters and camera crews at other locations to enter an established communications structure using general-purpose devices.
Riedel identifies Cologne Pride as a working example. Bildquadrat supports camera production, LED-screen playout and livestreaming at the event, with reporter and camera teams moving through the city centre. Virtual SmartPanel kept those mobile teams connected to control-room information and production communications even outside the coverage area of the local radio system. The deployment illustrates a practical role for software intercom: extending, rather than replacing, the wired and wireless systems already serving the main venue.
The announcement does not disclose the number of concurrent VSP users, audio codecs, bandwidth, latency, failover design or measured availability. It also leaves authentication, device management, browser support, encryption and cellular-network performance unspecified. The operational use at Cologne Pride and integration with Artist-1024 are confirmed by Riedel and Bildquadrat, but the vendor case study does not provide independent performance data or enough detail to compare the workflow with dedicated panels and radio beltpacks.
