A survey commissioned by Big Blue Marble has measured how viewers balance low latency against additional live-sports features. The July 2026 study covered 5,027 consumers in the UK, United States, France, Germany, Austria, Sweden and Norway.

Among live sports viewers, 62% said they had experienced coverage arriving after a result or social reaction, and 14% had considered switching provider because the stream was behind real time. Those figures connect delivery performance to retention rather than treating latency as only an engineering metric.

At the same time, 54% of sports fans said they would pay extra for at least one premium feature, including full replays, alternative camera angles or personalised highlights. The proportion rose to 80% for Gen Z and 71% for millennials, suggesting that product design can affect how viewers judge transport limitations.

The findings are useful planning signals, not measurements of any service or protocol. The source summary does not disclose sampling weights, question wording or margin of error, and willingness to pay does not guarantee actual purchases. Engineering teams should therefore combine the survey with service telemetry and controlled user tests.
