Nagravision and MediaTek have expanded their relationship so that a Nagravision secure element will be included in future television systems-on-chip on MediaTek's roadmap. The stated aim is a consistent hardware root for premium broadcast and OTT content delivered directly to retail TVs.
The companies describe a defence-in-depth architecture intended to make key extraction harder and reduce unauthorised redistribution. Because the trust anchor sits in silicon, operators can deploy services without relying only on application-level protection. The same element is intended to support traditional broadcast access control as well as connected-TV streaming.
For operators, the important change is scale. Security capabilities that previously depended on a managed set-top box could become available across television models using the relevant MediaTek silicon. That may reduce per-household hardware while creating a common protection baseline across manufacturers and delivery modes.
The agreement does not identify the first chip families, TV brands, certification profiles or deployment dates. Claims about resistance to AI- or quantum-enabled attacks are prospective and need precise cryptographic and lifecycle documentation before operators can assess them.
