swXtch.io is preparing groundSwXtch, a software network overlay for uncompressed audio-over-IP transport across WAN, 5G and public-internet connections. It is described as natively carrying Ravenna, AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110-30 streams without adding codec appliances or redesigning multicast routing.
The software can run on a server or virtual machine and uses PTP for timing plus SMPTE ST 2022-7 path protection. It can also connect with the company's cloudSwXtch environment for hybrid ground-to-cloud workflows.
Why it matters
Extending studio AoIP semantics across routed networks could simplify remote audio production and distributed facilities. The launch claims still need operational evidence: the vendor has not published bandwidth efficiency, encryption and authentication detail, latency limits, supported channel scale, failure-recovery measurements or pricing.
