DTVKit and Ocean Blue Software have developed a production-ready DVB-I client aimed at moving the specification from pilot projects into commercial television devices. The shared-source implementation is available royalty-free to DTVKit members and is designed for smart TVs, set-top boxes and hybrid broadcast-broadband products.
The client is written in native C++ and exposes its DVB-I functions through a JSON API, separating service discovery and metadata handling from the user interface. DTVKit says that design keeps the footprint low and makes the client portable across Android, Linux, RDK and other browser-capable environments.
The IBC demonstration will use an Android reference set-top box with a React interface from Ocean Blue. It will cover service discovery, regional selection, channel browsing, EPG data, accessibility and parental-control metadata, IP linear services, on-demand collections and links to HbbTV or web applications. The implementation is stated to comply with DVB-I BlueBook A177r7.
The technical significance is a reusable client layer that could reduce duplicate integration work for manufacturers and operators. Production readiness is a vendor description, however; device certification, operator trials, performance on constrained hardware and long-term maintenance arrangements have not yet been independently documented.
