DPA Microphones has launched the 6388 CORE+, a supercardioid headset microphone for live production environments where presenters or performers need voice isolation and high gain before feedback. The design builds on DPA's 4088 capsule but changes the physical and acoustic geometry.
An asymmetrical capsule and shifted acoustic axis allow the boom to sit beside or slightly behind the mouth. DPA says that arrangement, combined with controlled proximity effect, reduces plosives and makes the result less sensitive when the headset moves during a performance.
The boom can be worn on either side. The microphone is specified to maintain directionality across frequencies, giving mixers a more predictable off-axis response and reducing stage bleed. A wide dynamic range addresses both quiet and forceful speech, while modular terminations support major wireless systems.
The 6388 CORE+ carries an IP58 dust and humidity rating and is available now in multiple colours and sizes. The performance claims come from the manufacturer; no independent polar plots, maximum-SPL comparison or measured gain-before-feedback improvement accompanied the launch.
