DeviceAtlas is adding Sustainability Properties to its device intelligence platform, giving streaming services structured metadata about the energy characteristics of viewers' televisions, tablets and phones. The product is due to be shown at IBC2026 and is already available to major streaming platforms, according to the company.
For televisions, the data includes power use in SDR and HDR modes and the device's energy class. Mobile and tablet properties include energy-efficiency classes. A publisher can combine those values with device identification and viewing data to estimate how much electricity is being used at the consumer end of a stream.
This fills a blind spot in many sustainability calculations. Encoding, cloud compute and content delivery networks are measurable inside the service chain, while end-user displays are distributed across millions of homes. Device-level metadata could improve comparative reporting and reveal the impact of choices such as HDR delivery or device mix.
The product does not directly measure every viewer's real-time electricity draw; it supplies model-specific properties derived from regulatory and device information. Accuracy will therefore depend on device identification, viewing conditions and the calculation method used by each platform. Independent methodology and audit guidance have not yet been published.
