Clear-Com has introduced FreeSpeak Cell, a full-duplex intercom system that operates over public or private LTE and 5G networks. It is intended for users who need to move beyond the coverage of a local DECT or RF intercom deployment.
Initial integration is with Eclipse HX, and Clear-Com says Arcadia support will follow. The cellular approach can reduce local frequency coordination and extend communication to remote venues, vehicles and distributed production staff.
Why it matters
Wide-area intercom is a persistent weakness in remote production. Cellular connectivity can make a user reachable across a city or event footprint, but the system must translate variable public-network performance into predictable conversation quality.
What still needs checking
Service quality depends on network coverage, congestion, roaming and data policy. Shipping schedules and Arcadia availability should be verified by region before a production depends on the product.
