Bitmovin has released Encoder Version 3 with revised HEVC and AV1 codecs tuned for content-aware per-title encoding. The company reports lower bitrate and compute requirements in its own tests across animation, sports, television and cinematic material.
The update adds Dolby Vision Profile 10 using AV1, HDR10 for VP9 and AV1, and real-time VMAF scoring for H.264, HEVC and AV1. Media over QUIC support targets interactive live sports, while general availability is planned first for VOD deployments later in 2026, with further live work to follow.
An MCP server gives tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Copilot read-only access to encoding operations through plain-language requests. Users can list jobs, inspect parameters, explain failures and summarise activity without building a separate API integration.
The performance figures are vendor tests rather than an independent benchmark, and production results will depend on content, ladder design and quality targets. MoQ client reach, live-service availability, MCP authentication and the risk of exposing operational metadata also need assessment before rollout.
