G&L Systemhaus has integrated Signapse’s AI-generated digital signers into a live and on-demand streaming workflow. Norsk software provides live compositing and workflow functions, while Akamai supplies global distribution for the resulting signed video.
The system accepts spoken, written or video input and can place a signer into the programme as picture-in-picture. Demonstrations cover British Sign Language, American Sign Language and German Sign Language, with delivery formats and layouts intended to fit existing broadcast and streaming chains.
IBC selected the project for its 2026 Social Impact award, recognising the attempt to make sign-language output scalable where human interpreter capacity is limited. The partners state that the system is meant to extend coverage, not remove the need for human interpreters in context-sensitive or interactive situations.
Automated signing must be judged by Deaf users and qualified language experts, not only by picture quality or latency. The partners have not published language-specific error rates, live delay or editorial escalation rules. Broadcasters should preserve a human path for high-risk content and make automated output clearly identifiable.
