Sony and Reuters have built a prototype newsroom path that preserves C2PA authenticity information from camera capture through near-live distribution. The work extends Sony's PXW-Z300 recording capability into a broader production chain rather than treating provenance as a file added after ingest.
C2PA data is recorded when the image is captured and retained during near-live transfer. The fragmented MP4 stream then enters a Time-Addressable Media Store implemented against specification version 8.2, which defines how the segments and embedded provenance should be handled.
Combining C2PA with TAMS addresses a difficult point in live news: material often needs to be edited and published before a complete camera file exists. Preserving signed assertions across partial, time-addressable media could let newsroom systems verify origin without delaying access to the incoming feed.
The partners describe a demonstration rather than a deployed Reuters production service. Independent validation of signature survival across editing, transcoding and repackaging is not published, and the workflow does not by itself prove that recorded events are true. It establishes provenance, not editorial truth.
