FOR-A has integrated Canon PTZ camera control into MixBoard, its software-defined production switcher powered by ClassX. The collaboration was demonstrated at IBC2026 and is now described as available for shipping. MixBoard already combines video switching, audio mixing and graphics, using either a dedicated control panel or tailored on-screen layouts for live events and smaller studio productions.
The Canon integration adds direct control of one or more PTZ cameras. Operators can recall stored positions, move and zoom cameras in real time and manage tally indications without leaving the MixBoard environment. FOR-A says the work progressed from initial interoperability tests after the MPTS exhibition in May to a formal collaboration demonstrated less than four months later.
The practical value is consolidation rather than a new camera transport format. A small production can place camera movement, shot recall, tally, switching, audio and graphics on one operational surface instead of assigning a separate PTZ controller for every position. That can reduce desk hardware and make camera actions part of saved software layouts. It also concentrates more production functions in one interface, so control feedback and failure handling become important commissioning questions.
The announcement does not identify supported Canon camera models, the control protocol, maximum camera count or minimum MixBoard software version. It also leaves latency, preset accuracy, connection recovery, operator permissions and redundant-control behaviour undocumented. Focus, iris, exposure and autofocus controls are not explicitly listed, and no licensing or upgrade terms are published. Facilities should therefore validate their exact Canon models and on-air recovery procedures before replacing dedicated PTZ controllers.
