LiveU has joined the Smart Stories Accelerator project, an industry consortium developing a Story Object Model for newsroom interoperability. The goal is to let acquisition, planning, editing, archive and distribution systems share the same structured understanding of a developing story.
The project distinguishes SOM from the established MOS protocol. MOS moves operational data between newsroom systems, whereas SOM is intended to describe the story, its assets, changes and different published tellings. The consortium is also defining agent skills so editorial rules, compliance thresholds and house style can remain under newsroom control.
LiveU's role is to attach story context to field acquisition and ingest. A proposed workflow can suggest a unit for a breaking assignment, carry context with its feed, trigger transcription and clipping, and return results to a shared console for confirmation by a human editor.
Broadcasters, news agencies, standards bodies and technology vendors are participating, and the group plans a specification, a skills reference architecture and a three-tier integration guide. These are still project deliverables rather than an adopted standard, so governance, versioning and production interoperability remain to be proven.
