Blackmagic Design has announced DaVinci Resolve 21 with a new Photo page and a broad set of AI-assisted editorial and finishing tools. The release is available as a public beta for testing before final production deployment.
AI IntelliSearch is intended to find shots from natural-language and visual criteria, while CineFocus adds focus analysis and manipulation. Fusion gains more than 70 Krokodove tools for motion graphics and compositing, and Fairlight adds folder-based organisation for larger sessions.
Why it matters
Search and metadata are now central to editing speed, especially when productions generate many camera hours. Bringing those functions into the finishing application can reduce round trips, while expanded Fusion tools strengthen Resolve as a graphics and post platform.
What still needs checking
AI results depend on content and model behaviour, and beta software can change. Critical projects should validate project compatibility, collaborative databases, render output and rollback before adoption.
