AJA Video Systems has entered into an agreement to acquire Comprimato, a developer of video encoding and transcoding software. The deal would bring codec engineering and products for live transcoding, standards conversion, SMPTE ST 2110 and JPEG workflows into AJA.
Comprimato develops a Live Transcoder, conversion software, an ST 2110 appliance and JPEG 2000 SDK technology. AJA already uses Comprimato engineering in BRIDGE LIVE, making the transaction an extension of an existing product relationship.
Why it matters
Contribution and streaming platforms are increasingly differentiated by software codec efficiency and the speed at which new formats can be supported. Owning that layer may let AJA coordinate appliance, I/O and codec roadmaps more closely.
What still needs checking
The announcement is an agreement, not evidence that the transaction has closed. Financial terms, integration milestones and the future packaging of Comprimato products were not disclosed.
