TRP has completed an as-live remote-production trial across two racecourses using bonded 5G and low-Earth-orbit satellite connectivity. Four HD camera feeds were encoded as HEVC and transported with hardware SRT from Appear X5 units to an X20 system at the production site.
Two HD return feeds travelled back to the venues. Appear says the trial continued through heavy rain without reported picture degradation or operator intervention. TRP covers 51 racecourses, and 31 are said to lack wired contribution connectivity, making resilient wireless paths operationally relevant.
Why it matters
The test combines multiple imperfect access networks rather than treating any single mobile or satellite link as broadcast-grade by itself. It is promising field evidence, but it was reviewed as-live rather than publicly transmitted, and no measured bandwidth, packet-loss, latency or recovery data were published. A wider rollout remains under evaluation.
