SVT has received the EBU Technology & Innovation Award 2026 for Neo, its software-defined live production platform.
According to the EBU, Neo runs production functions as software on standard IT hardware and combines IP transport with cloud-native principles. During the 2026 Winter Olympics, the platform delivered more than 800 hours across more than 150 sports productions, ten parallel production environments and OTT channels.
Why it matters
Software-defined production claims are common; a long, concurrent live sports deployment is materially stronger evidence than a lab demonstration. It tests scheduling, operator handover, failure recovery, observability and the organisational process around changing software services during a major event.
The published award summary does not expose the complete architecture, so engineers should avoid treating “standard IT” as “generic setup”. Performance depends on network design, timing, acceleration, control and disciplined platform engineering. Neo is important because it gives the industry a large reference case to interrogate.
