SMPTE has outlined an IBC2026 program built around AI governance, open media workflows, cloud infrastructure and the Dynamic Media Facility model.

The partner sessions include sovereign AI and cloud, the case for Dynamic Media Facilities, the OGraf specification for open broadcast graphics, and the relationship between open source and formal standards. Separate workshops will cover codec strategy, IP transition, graphics workflows and practical operation of software-defined media facilities.

Why it matters

The program reflects a shift in broadcast engineering discussions. The question is no longer only whether media functions can run as software, but how independently developed functions are discovered, connected, monitored and replaced without recreating proprietary islands.

OGraf is especially relevant to graphics teams because an open interchange model could reduce the cost of moving templates and data-driven graphics between renderers. DMF work is broader: it attempts to make pooled compute and containerised media processing operable at live-production latency.
