A private 5G network carried four live monowheel camera feeds during the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Neutral Wireless worked with host broadcaster Actua to cover the stadium and a one-kilometre city-centre race-walk course.
Each operator rode an electric monowheel with a Panasonic mirrorless camera on a gimbal and a LiveU LU800 contribution unit. The private 5G system was the sole connectivity path for each 20Mbps 1080i50 feed, and all four feeds were integrated into the live host production.
The network used four 40MHz cells across 80MHz of spectrum and was designed to provide more than 75Mbps of uplink capacity anywhere on the course. A portable Neutral Wireless Nessie base station and core sat in the technical area, with fibre links to three remote cells and a path back to the master control room at Alexander Stadium.
This is useful operational evidence because the network carried moving, live-to-air sources rather than only a laboratory demonstration. The report does not publish spectrum band, latency, packet-loss, redundancy or congestion data, so the result should not be generalised to every venue or regulatory environment.
