Olympic Broadcasting Services expects the Los Angeles 2028 Games to become its largest broadcast operation. OBS chief executive Yiannis Exarchos told IBC2026 that the event will involve 12,000 athletes, 36 sports and more than 14,000 hours of content.

Paris produced about 11,000 content hours, including 3,400 hours of competition, with 1,000 camera systems and 8,000 staff from 106 countries. Exarchos said LA28 will exceed those numbers and that virtualisation, artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure are necessary to scale the operation.

The pressure is not only the host feed. OBS expects rights holders to create more versions for casual viewers, digital platforms and different cultures. Automation and shared infrastructure can multiply output without reproducing a complete control room and editing team for every variation.

OBS has described the direction, not the final architecture. Camera counts, cloud regions, contribution paths, AI approvals, recovery modes and rights-holder interfaces remain open. The three-year planning window also means vendors and standards may change before the Games begin.
