A special Iberia flight for the August 12 solar eclipse carried a four-camera live production from above 10,000 metres. TVU Networks said a TVU One unit used the aircraft’s Starlink connection to send the feed into TVU MediaHub.
El Sótano Doc handled creative direction and technical production, with Golden News Media supporting connectivity and distribution. MediaHub was configured to redistribute the signal to more than 100 receivers, with SRT and TVU Grid ISSP offered as reception formats.
Technical significance
Airborne contribution combines constrained installation, moving network coverage and limited access for repair. The workflow is a useful test of whether consumer-facing satellite broadband can serve as part of a professional contribution chain when bonded transmission, cloud routing and multiple receiver formats surround it.
What to watch
The vendor report does not publish achieved bitrate, packet-loss history, latency or any interruptions during the flight. Those figures, plus the role of backup links and the number of receivers that actually took the feed, would determine how transferable the design is to other airborne productions.
