HuskerVision, the video production operation for University of Nebraska Athletics, has completed a six-month move from ageing baseband infrastructure to a shared SMPTE ST 2110 environment. The new Grass Valley-based facility adds three control rooms and is intended to support live production across sports venues on the university campus.
The camera layer combines LDX 135 and LDX 150 systems with XCU Xpress UXF base stations connected directly to the IP plant. Two Kayenne K-Frame SXP-I switchers provide separate production positions, while advanced IP I/O and 100GbE connectivity carry signals around the facility. Creative Grading panels and a central control server handle colour and HDR management across the camera fleet.
The technical value lies in replacing fixed baseband routing with a common network that can expose Grass Valley and third-party resources to multiple rooms and venues. Native UHD acquisition is available on the LDX 135, and the switchers support HD, 3G and 12G UHD formats, giving the operation a planned route to UHD and HDR without another wholesale rebuild. BeckTV integrated the system and delivered commissioning and training.
The announcement does not identify the IP switch fabric, PTP design, NMOS control layer, multicast topology or ST 2022-7 redundancy policy. It also leaves replay, audio, multiviewing and storage systems unspecified, and describes UHD and HDR as future capabilities rather than confirmed routine output formats. Facilities evaluating a similar design would still need measured failover, latency, timing and multi-vendor interoperability data.
